About the book:

One decision changed both their lives . . . but will love win in the end? Charlotte Rose Hill enjoys a comfortable life serving up country delicacies, uniquely blended teas, and matchmaking advice for her quirky, devoted customers. The only thing lacking is someone to share it with. At eighteen she denied Sam Wilder's marriage proposal after his family convinced her to walk away from their relationship. They both moved on . . . or so she thought. When Sam walks back into her life more than a decade later, Charlotte is surprised that her heart still quickens. But is it because of his presence? Or because of the presence of Sam's new fiancée? A second chance at love doesn't happen often, but their past may keep them apart. Is it too late for Sam and Charlotte?

My Thoughts:

Charlotte Rose Hill has been blessed with a talent of blending tea to fit each person that visits her tearoom.   She has many happy customers that not only come for the delicious tea but because they enjoy visiting with the sweet and caring entrepreneur of the Rose Cottage Tearoom in Middlebury.

Charlotte still thinks of the love of her life. She was forced to turn down a fairy tale life and marriage with Sam Wilder.  Years later he walks into her tearoom unexpectedly.  The feelings were still alive in her heart. What has brought him back to Middlebury and who was the young woman with him?  If only he would propose to her again! Was this finally there time?  Will love prevail?

I really enjoyed this book!  So many secrets and deceit that turned so many lives upside down.  This is real life in this story!  Things do not always turn out the way we wish.

The author created some very unique characters for this story, several weak individuals, even some down right arrogant and then there were the one's that wanted to take the whole town onto their shoulders.  This author has a real talent is evident in this book.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

My Thoughts

Lily is overwhelmed with the many changes in her life.  After having a confrontation with her estranged mother she decides to take an unexpected trip to Melbourne. She knew her relationship with her parents was not normal  and that she needed to find that missing link.  No sooner than she arrives in Australia she becomes depressed and not sure where to go or even what to do next.  As she sits crying on a park bench a man shows concern for her well being.  As their friendship grows throughout the day he offers to help her with her family mystery.  She begins to wonder if he would play an important role in restoring her relationship with her family.

It was really hard to put this book down.  The author created a tragic tale about Lily that appeared to be irreconcilable and writes of how God has a plan if only she has faith in Him.  People were put in Lily's path to help fulfill His plan.  I know people can't see God's plan when facing trials and tribulations but as time goes by he shows us his plan.  The author put her heart and soul in this story.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

Secrets About Anita Higman

Here are twelve secrets about Anita Higman—twelve facts you might enjoy reading or twelve facts that might be a complete waste of your time. I’ll leave that up to you…
  1. I think writing is incredibly hard. When I start a new book, it seems impossible. It is impossible! But somehow word by word it gets gone. Just like when kids are born, each completed book seems like a miracle.
  2. I once worked in a pillow factory. I was terrible at it. I got so weary with the repetition I started yakking with the woman next to me. We got reprimanded over and over until I quit. I discovered one thing from that college job—talking is something I excel at.
  3. I want to be Jane Austen when I grow up. Doesn’t everyone?
  4. I once won a hog-calling contest at a banquet. I was not embarrassed, but I should have been.
  5. In college I agreed to participate in a fun experiment where I kissed a guy who was hooked up to an EKG machine. The young man got so excited when I kissed him that the marking pen flew off the machine. Why do I love telling that story?
  6. I love licorice ice cream and orchid tea—both are as delicious as they are hard to find!
  7. I have a bird phobia, and yet I love birds! (That is, from a distance.) My house is filled with the fake kind—prints on the walls, statues, and general bird doodads. Go figure.
  8. I hate wearing the color orange—it makes me look like a pumpkin.
  9. I used to play the French horn in high school. I was terrible at it.
  10. I keep some interesting treasures near me when I write—a wooden jewelry box my son made me when he was in school, a candle from the 1960s, a hat once owned by a famous mystery writer, the inner parts of a music box, a birthday card that plays The Twilight Zone theme song, and an old family toy helicopter that says, “Going up.”
  11. Thirty-four years ago I rappelled off a cliff alongside the man I was dating. We kissed in mid-air while dangling off that cliff. I ended up marrying that man, and we've celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary!
  12. I’ve been writing for about twenty-eight years, but before I started this career I was a waitress, a copy writer, a wheat-tarp roller (don’t ask), a clerk in a gift shop, a nurse’s aide, an assistant administrator at a nursing home, a bookkeeper, a librarian, a receptionist, a computer operator, a desk clerk at a hotel, a cosmetic salesperson, a maid, a babysitter, a model, and a disc jockey. I’d love to tell you that I became accomplished at every job, but the truth is, I was mostly bored. When I finally tried the very thing I’d been running from for years I felt I’d arrived somewhere important—I’d come home.

My Thoughts

What is better that a good Texas Romance? Four Texas Romance books in one!

This book is about the McBride sisters.  They were raised in Galveston, Texas and enjoy the fact that their mother owned a Scrapbooking Shop on Galveston's popular Strand.  All three girls are on their own living in different parts of Texas.  Each one of them is single and waiting  for their soul mates.

Everything's Coming Up Rosy!

The girls have come together in Galveston for Rosy's wedding but it has come very apparent that she has been left at the altar.  How could this happen they love each other.  Where can her Henry be?  She was going to Kill him!

She realizes she pushed too hard for a marriage that Henry just was not ready for.  So instead of killing him she closes herself up in her old bedroom at her parent's house.  Then her best bud, Lars shows up as her knight in shining armor to pull her from the pit of depression.  Why had she not seen what a special man Lars was, he knew her better than anyone?

God had a better plan for Rosy.

For the Love of Violet!

Violet owns her own business called Romantic Images.  Her business is doing so well she has someone else running the business for her.  Violet loves hiking and living in this scenic town of Alpine, Texas.  As she is enjoying a quiet day when she hears a racket coming up her driveway.  Stepping out of a rattle trap of a truck is a cowboy.  He introduces himself as one of her online customers and he has a very high opinion of her.  This was kind of freaky that this man would drive out to her home to meet her.  He wants to pay her to teach him how to be romantic.  Crazy!

She was not sure how it happened but she agreed to help him for an outrageous price thinking he would not pay what she asked.  But he agreed pay whatever she asked.  They decided to hike up a mountain as they had their first lesson on living romantically.  The more time she spent with Will the more she liked him.  Maybe he was teaching her a lesson in romance.

Forget Me Not Lily!

Lily has started her own business as a Christian counselor but she does not have very much confidence in herself.  When she attended school she missed a lot of classes helping a sick friend.  Even though she got her degree she feels as if she miss some important lessons.

She has several patients and they all seem to be happy under her care.  Her motto is to not just be there counselor but  their friend.

One day a very handsome man comes to her office  to make an appointment for counseling. He feels it is not necessary but his boss slash friend thinks differently.  Lily and Rubin meet to access his counseling needs and decide he really doesn't need counseling.   Rubin kept making advances that were hard to miss and she decided to invite him to a party she was having at her home for all of her patient slash friends.   Lily is attracted to  Rubin but his gorgeous female boss also has her eyes set on Rubin.  Would it be ethical for Lily to date Rubin?

Dreaming of Heather!

Heather has just resigned from her job.  The job had been one of deceit and lies and she did not want to have any part of that kind of business.

She felt like she had a load removed and was ready to move on to an honest profession.  She owned her own home in Southeast Texas on Horseshoe Bayou.  It was her beautiful relaxing haven.  She likes sitting on her back porch watching God's majestic creations.

As she sits enjoying the view a handsome man in a tuxedo comes walking up with a broad smile on his face.  She must be having a vision. Come to find out he was her neighbor and needed a favor.  He asked her if she would be his date for a wedding he had to attend.  At first she considered the fact that she did not know this man from Adam. Then he explains that his deceased aunt had left him the house. His aunt had spoken often and kindly about Heather on several occasions when she was living.  So he felt like he already knew Heather.  They joked around and she decided since he really wasn't a complete stranger she would help him out and be his date for the wedding.  Besides he was something else!

After just one date they both knew there was a strong connection between the two of them.

*  *  *

I will not tell you how things ended so you will need to grab a copy of the book to find out if there was a happy ending.

I had a great connection with this book because I live in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas. Plus I have three daughters and two step-daughters that I had the pleasure and watching them fall in and out and in love.  I would like to say they are all living happily ever after but they are all living their life the way they choose and that is what counts.

The author wrote of the diverse situations of each sister as they sought their soul mates.    These stories were sad at times, definitely funny and very romantic.  God had a special plan for each sister.

I found each story to be special in its own way.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

My Thoughts

Franny Martin has her mind on music most of the time while she is doing chores on her farm.  The barn yard animals seem to like her singing.  As she is singing to the pigs a man walks up behind her and scared the stuffin out of her.  Which landed her in the mud.  He did save her radio from the mud and she was grateful for that.  She asked the nice looking man who he was and why he was there.  He boldly told her his name was Charles Landau and he wanted to buy her farm and was willing to pay whatever she asked.  She quickly told him he just bought a farm.  The only problem was he knew nothing about farming or livestock. Nada!  So after much deliberation she agreed to stay on as a hired farm hand and teach him about farming.  He was to learn to be farmer in three weeks. Right! After that she was going to move to the city and work at her dream job at a radio station that is if anyone would hire her without any knowledge in this line of work.

She had many obstacles in her way of getting her dream job.  Charlie was not very successful at farming after she left either. Maybe if they worked together in running the farm it would be profitable for both of them.  That is if Charlie's father was not so bent on Charlie taking over the family business to the point of making threats.

I read this book in one sitting okay two sittings. I did not want to put it down.
It had all I love to read in a book intrigue, romance, Trust in God, family secrets, redemption, love of mankind and some very interesting characters.

The characters:
  •  Franny has horrible memories of the day of her parent's deadly accident.
  • Charlie had also suffered the loss of his mother and the lack of his father's love.
  • Noma has spent her whole life dealing with prejudice because of her color.
  • Willie is Charlie's brother and has suffered even greater emotional abuse from his father.
  • Mr. Landau rules over his sons holding back any affection or love.
In my opinion each of the characters had a painful past causing the present life hard to endure at times. The difference in the characters was that some of them trusted in God's will and endured their lives with patience.  Those that had hardened their hearts towards God tried to force their own will on others causing much pain themselves and others.

The author writes of a Christmas Gift that's not under a tree or wrapped up in pretty paper.  It is the Gift of Love God gives to His children through the birth of His Son Jesus.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book 5 out of 5.
