So, are a lot of grandparents getting divorced these days? These stats say YES, and a lot of parents are going to be explaining divorce to kids. Divorce rate for first marriage is 41% (and many stay married for 25-30+ years, then divorcing).

In one of the illustrations created beautifully by Michelle Lund, young Isaac is telling his best friends, his toy cars, his news: "Mom just told me that my grandparents are going to be moving to separate houses." The parents have many conversations with their two children, Isaac and Ari, answering their questions, and suggesting they do some drawings of how they feel. They all share how they are feeling, and reassure each other that no matter what, Mom and Dad will always be there and love them-and that each grandparent will continue to love them.

About Katie

Katie Saint is a therapist, but this book came around because she is a mother of a two little boys whose grandparents (her parents) were getting divorced. She realized with all of their questions, other families must have the same concerns.

Professionally, she works with clients at many stages in life: relational problems; transitioning through divorce; working through ADHD, PTSD, anxiety and depression; grieving a loved one; and other life stressors. Katie focuses on helping clients recognize and build on their own strengths to meet their personal goals.

Katie Saint graduated from Lakeland College with a Master's Degree in Counseling, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She specializes in extreme behavioral problems. She provides individual, couple, pre-marital, and family counseling to children, adolescents and adults. Katie has over 4000 hours working with adults, children and adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. She also offers an emotional control program for adolescents and adults struggling with impulsive behavior or emotional regulation. Katie utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques including the combination of behavioral, cognitive and psychoanalytic tools.

My Thoughts

Ari and Isaac just found out that their grandparents are getting a divorce.  Things will be different, grandma will have her own place without grandpa and visa versa. This makes the kids very sad and confused.  It just won't be the same as when they lived together.

Does that mean that mom and dad will get a divorce?

How can we make this easier for children so they can still enjoy time with each grandparent?

This book will help your child understand a little better.  It explains what you should tell them. It will still be fun to visit grandma at her house and doing the fun things they did before it would just be without grandpa.  Then there are special things they like to do with grandpa and they will still be able to do those things even without grandma.

I had never really thought about the effect it would have on a child when their grandparents divorce.  Now I definitely see that it would confuse a child to the point of pulling away from the situation because they weren't sure how to react.

Katie tells the story in a way so that the child will be more comfortable around the grandparents.  They need the assurance that they are still loved by both grandparents. I liked that the author provides activities for the child to help them express their feelings about the divorce.  Then there is a question and answer guide in the back of the book that offers information and support to the parents.

I highly recommend this book.

My Thoughts

Thomas awakens to a new day not expecting the chaos that awaits outside his house and all over the township. He readies himself for another day of work in the fields with his best friend Forestmaster.  His friend is a giant, for real, a real giant!  Forestmaster and many of the other giants have been in the township as far back as when Thomas's grandfather was a young man.   They worked right along side the people helping them to cope with life's ups and downs.

As Thomas walks outside everyone seemed frightened and confused. He finally gets someone to tell him what is going on and it seems that the giants have left the township with no evidence that they will return. How can this be, everyone depends on the giants to do the things the people are not able to do.

There was a town meeting called to discuss what was to be done to bring the giants back. Thomas becomes heavy of heart and knows he must volunteer to find the giants and ask them why they left and tell them they need  to come back with him. Two other men volunteer but when it came time to leave the men did not show up and Thomas left alone on the quest to bring the giants back.

It was going to be a danger journey and he feared leaving his wife and child alone. But his wife supported him in his decision to find the giants and ask them to come back.

Will he make it through the wilderness without harm? Will he even be able to find the giants? He has hope and faith in God that he will find the giants and get the answers to the questions he and the township need.

The author has a great story line and the outcome and answers revealed will show us how we can have more faith and hope in ourselves and always in God.

The illustrations were very life like and along with the author's writing it will stir the imagination of the reader in this land among giants.

I highly recommend this book.

My Thoughts 

In a small Indian village by Lake Ontario there was a humongous wigwam and in this wigwam lived a wealthy, handsome Invisible Being and his sister. Every single woman in the village wanted to marry the Invisible Being because of his great wealth.

Also in this village lived a poor man and his three daughters. Two of the daughters were very self-centered and made the third daughter do the chore of tending the fire. From tending the fire the young woman had burns and scars all over her hands, arms and face because of sparks flying up and on her. Her sisters teased her and called her Rough-Face Girl.

One day the two sisters dressed up in the finest their father could provide and they went to seek out the invisible being to become his bride. But they first had to answer his sisters questions correctly.

The third sister has faith that she will marry the Invisible One. So she dresses in what little her father has to offer, which was far less than her sister had. Which of the young women do you think the handsome Invisible One should choose? Why?

This is a different twist on the Cinderella tale that we all know well. The story in this book is an Algonquin Indian Cinderella tale.

I enjoyed this story with the Rough-Face Girl. Most people only saw her scars and had no idea what beauty she held within.

How many times have you looked at someone and not wanted to be their friend just because of their outer appearance?

I purchased this book for my own pleasure to read.

I highly recommend this book for ages 8 and up.

Out and About at the Zoo is such a fun book.  I can't wait to read the rhymes in this story to my grandbabies.  I know I will be sending them their own copy of this book to read and soak up the colorful pages.

The illustrations are so cute and will definitely grab the child's attention to the bright colors and the zoo animals they are visiting in this darling book.

Here is one of my favorite pages, it teaches the child about the description of the animal and teaches colors in fun rhyming words.

I see this as not just for a fun read but also for the education of  young children.
