About the book:
Her courage and her heart will be tested in ways she never expected . . .
Beth Thatcher has spent her entire life in the safe, comfortable world of her family, her friends, and the social outings her father's wealth provides. But Beth is about to leave it all behind to accept a teaching position in the rugged foothills of western Canada. Inspired by her aunt Elizabeth, who went west to teach school several years ago, and gently encouraged by her father, Beth resolves to put her trust in God and bravely face any challenge that comes her way.
But the conditions in Coal Valley are even worse than she'd feared. A recent mining accident has left the town grieving and at the mercy of the mining company. The children have had very little prior education, and many of the locals don't even speak English. There isn't even a proper schoolhouse. In addition, Beth's heart is torn between two young men---both Mounties, one a lifelong friend and the other a kind, quiet man who comes to her aid more than once.
Despite the many challenges, Beth is determined to make a difference in the rustic frontier town. But when her sister visits from the East, reminding her of all the luxuries she's had to give up, will Beth decide to return to her privileged life as soon as the school year is over?

About Authors:
Janette Oke Celebrated for her significant contribution to the Christian book industry, Janette Oke is the recipient of numerous awards. Her novels have sold more than 30 million copies and are beloved by readers around the world. Janette lives with her husband, Edward, in Alberta, Canada.
Laurel Oke Logan is the daughter of Edward and Janette Oke, is the author of "Janette Oke: A Heart for the Prairie," as well as the novel "Dana's Valley," which she co-wrote with her mom. Laurel and her husband have six children and two sons-in-law and live near Indianapolis, Indiana.
My Thoughts
Beth is made to endure a going away party her mother has arranged for her which was against Beth's wishes. Her mother has invited the very elite of society. He main comfort and support at the party is her father. Beth has taken a teaching position in the remote foothills of western Canada. This is a great undertaking for such a refined lady but she is sure she up to the challenge. After all her aunt had taken a teaching position in a remote area in Canada several years back.
When Beth arrives at her destination of Coal Valley the conditions were poor. The families had very little in shelter, clothing and food. Many of the families had lost their husbands and fathers in a mine cave in. She is also informed she will be holding school in a pool hall. Her mother would be mortified. To her great pleasure the people of this mining town were mostly pleasant. The town was protected by the Canadian Mounties. Which gave her a small sense of security.
This was an informative read. I remember watching shows with the very impressive Canadian Mounties. I like historical novels and this book was an exceptional read .
The authors write of a brave woman that takes on such an adventure where she would be in danger on a daily basis. This was the wilderness of all wilderness. She had a very big heart and a great desire to teach children in order to give them a chance at a better life.
I see Janette Oke as one of these women cutting a path for our young women to follow in her footsteps. I have so much love and respect for women authors who have given me many hours of reading pleasure.
I highly recommend this book.
I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

Seattle native Holly Fisher is smitten by Lancaster County, its simplicity and her long lost relatives. In the sequel to bestselling Leaving Lancaster, Holly embraces the Amish culture, learning to slow down to see what --- and who --- really matters.
Meeting the family that her mother had kept hidden from her, Holly comes face to face with her real life and blood legacy. She also falls for the charming Zach, a handsome Mennonite veterinarian who is everything she's ever wanted in a husband: confident, kind, successful, and authentic. And Zach proposes marriage. Is this too soon? Is this the right choice? Mother and Amish grandmother think she's rushing into too much of a lifestyle change. Holly is in love with Zach and that precludes everything. Until she meets an attractive Amish man. And an old suitor shows up.
Pennyslvania Patchwork is the moving, richly told story of one woman's heart, her faith and trust, and the choices she makes. Never easy, but one choice can change your destiny.

My Thoughts
Holly Fisher lives under the same roof with her mother who is soon to be baptized Amish and her grandmother whom she was just recently united with due to the fact Holly was told her grandmother was not alive.
In their home the drama level is at a very high level.
Holly is trying to decide if she still wants to marry a Zach, the Mennonite veterinarian or convert to Amish and marry an Amish man. But wait! There is also an Englischer friend that has decided he wants to be more than friends with Holly and presents with a proposition he thinks she will not resist.
It appears Holly has enough drama just by herself but then her mother, Esther was suppose to be getting married to Nathaniel and now the Bishop has come up with a very good reason why she may not get to marry Nathaniel.
Holly's grandmother, Anna is having health problems and showing signs of dementia needing more care than a toddler. Her cooking and dropping off to sleep at any given time is proof her memory and health are failing.
I was under the impression that life among the Amish was plain and peaceful. Evidently not! The author's imagination must have been working on triple time. Having raised several daughters I know how drama can build.
I tried to think of who was my favorite character in this story and I have to say Anna the feisty grandmother. She may have been in bad health but the author gave her a big personality. Anna was one sneaky, persistent and sometime sweet old lady.
What really got on my nerves was the constant friction between Holly's so called suitors. They bickered so much I wanted to bop them upside their head. The story could have done with less of their bickering.
I suggest you read book one to really appreciate book two. All said, I do recommend this book.
Considering the positive over the negative of this story I have rated the book a 4 out of 5.

STEALING THE PREACHER by KAREN WITEMEYER
About Stealing the Preacher:
A cowboy who wants to be a preacher. An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind.
On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape-which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.
For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be?
With her signature blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award finalist and bestselling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love story sure to steal your heart.

My Thoughts
Crockett Archer is forced off the train to be taken on an unwanted detour. In actuality he is kidnapped against his will to be presented to the daughter of the leader of the geriatric outlaw gang that took him from the train. He originally was on his way to Brenham, Texas where he is to be considered as a candidate to become Preacher for a local church.
Joanna Robbins could not believe her father had given her a preacher as a birthday gift. A kidnapped preacher at that. Yes, she had been praying for a preacher for their church but her father should not have kidnapped one from the train. What had gotten into her father?
When Crockett and Joanna had a chance to discuss the ere of her father's ways they finally agreed that he only did it because he loved his daughter and wanted to make her happy. Crockett could not seem to get Joanna and her birthday wish off his mind and prayed that God would show him the path in which he was to take. What is God's plan for Crockett?
I enjoy a book with humor and odd twist and turns. This book is definitely in that category. The author writes about the characters taking a path they have cut for themselves and shows how God leads them onto a straight path putting them on the path He had intended for them all along. This story has all the things I yearn for in a good book. There is reconciliation, trust, faith, love, romance and much more to keep your attention to the very last page, wishing to stay with the characters a while longer.
I highly recommend this book.
I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

"Swept Away" is one those books you can't put down. The colorful characters, fast pace action adventure with romance, intrigue and let's not forget the author's great sense of humor will hold your attention until the very end of the book and have yearning for more. I am so looking forward to reading "FIRED UP", the next book in this series to be released in September 2013. I was glad to see this new series was related in a way to the author's series The Kincaid Brides. I always know that when I pick up a book by Mary Connealy I am going to be entertained beyond my expectations.
When a cowboy focused on revenge encounters a woman determined to distract him, there's going to be trouble in Texas!
Swept away when her wagon train attempts a difficult river crossing, Ruthy MacNeil isn't terribly upset at being separated from the family who raised her. All they've ever done is work her to the bone. Alive but disoriented, she's rescued by Luke Stone...so unfortunately, there are more chances to die in her immediate future.
Luke is on a mission to reclaim the ranch stolen from his family. But the men currently on the property won't let it go without a fight. Luke plans to meet up with friends who will help him take back the land, and since he can't just leave Ruthy in the middle of nowhere, she's going to have to go with him.
But the more time Luke spends around the hardworking young woman, the more he finds himself thinking of things besides revenge. Will Ruthy convince him to give up his destructive path and be swept away by love?

My Thoughts
After Ruthy MacNeil's parents died she was taken in by a neighboring family. Since then she had become little more than a slave and had to learn to keep her distant from the family's son whom is now her brother and she has been promised to him in marriage. Even at a young age she knew this was not right. Now in her teens it is even harder for her to stay away her brother's advances and the iron rule and abuse from his parents. They have decided to leave her home and theirs to move Westward. As they cross a swift river that is swollen from rain the wagon she is driving is swept away along with her family. She is found barely alive by Luke Stone and he takes her to the town nearest his ranch. But keeps her with him at a friends home in town.
Luke has been away from his ranch for a long time. His father is now deceased and Luke has come to claim his inheritance. But there is a problem, his ranch has been taken over by a land grabbing rancher. Several of Luke's friends have come to town to assist him in getting the ranch back.
In the plans to take the ranch back they end up including Ruthy since she is just as handy with a gun and tracking as the he and his friends. He finds himself wanting to protect her, especially from her own rash decisions. Even though she sees herself as unattractive and undesirable to men Luke proves to her different, because he is very attracted to her. Could there be love in the future for her and Luke?

My Thoughts
In book two of THE GRAND TOUR Series, Cora Kensington and her siblings continue the grand tour on shaky ground. They have agreed, that even in impending danger, to continue on to meet their father at the next stop in their tour. Mr. Kensington agrees to let them go on with the tour but has decided to join the tour to make sure there is no danger lurking after his children. When a tag-along with their group betrays them Mr. Kensington puts his foot down.
The author has continued right where book one, Glamorous Illusions left off, with suspense, mystery, romance, reconciliation and danger around every corner. I devoured the history the author provided, making me feel as if I were actually on the tour.
This book was in my hands every time I left a room, it stayed with me. My family is getting use to me getting lost in my reading especially when it is one so well written.
I want book 3, Glittering Promises now! But we have to wait patiently until October 2013 for it's release, you may want to pre-order the book.

My Thoughts

Cora informs him she is in charge of her own life and that she loves Will. Her father would never welcome a tour guide to court one of his daughters. This angers her father and gives her an ultimatum. He orders her to court and marry someone of his choosing. She feels as if she is trapped by her fathers demands.
With worrying about her Papa's health, her dictator of a birth father and the possible loss of the man she truly loves, what does her future hold. Let's not forget constantly looking over her shoulder for fear of her or the others she has become to love might be kidnapped or possibly killed.

This book was in my hands every time I left a room, it stayed with me. My family is getting use to me getting lost in my reading especially when it is one so well written.

I highly recommend this book.
