Part of a four-book series -

My Name is Erin: One Girl's Journey to Discover Who She Is

My Name is Erin: One Girl's Mission to Make a Difference

My Name is Erin: One Girl's Plan for Radical Faith

P.S.You can read them in any order - because you are a girl discovering Truth.

Meet the Author:
A popular speaker, author and blogger, ERIN DAVIS has addressed women of all ages nationwide and is passionately committed to sharing God's Truth with others. She is the author of several books including Graffiti: Learning to See the Art in Ourselves, True Princess: Embracing Humility in an All About Me World, The Bare Facts with Josh McDowell, Beyond Bath Time: Embracing Motherhood As a Sacred Role. Erin's quest for the perfect scoop of ice cream is never ending and her family is her constant source of entertainment.

My Thoughts

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

You actually have to know God's Truth to be tied to it. Study the bible "gird yourself" with God's Truth.

The author asks, "What is the opposite of Truth?".  Her answer is: The simplest way to define something that isn't true is to call it a lie.

In chapter 3 we meet Lie's ugly cousins Bent Truth, Relative Truth, and Partial Truth.

Chapter 5: How can you stand by Truth? Erin writes about the different types of Truth and untruth.  She points out the way to the Truth (God) is through Jesus and the way to untruth leads to the Satan.

Erin introduced some girls she calls the Gab Gallery. They entertained me with their past experiences and opinions of Truths and of Lies.

I am looking forward  to the next book in this series.  Stay tuned to my blog for my next book I review in this series.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

My Name is ERIN: One Girl's Plan for Radical Faith, My Name is ERIN series by ERIN DAVIS

Just for Tweens

My Name is Erin:

One Girl's Plan for Radical Faith

Maybe you've had a moment-a time in your history when God did something radical in your heart. Putting your faith and trust in Him certainly feels like taking a giant leap, but really it's just the beginning of the exciting, and-yes-radical journey that comes with agreeing to live as God calls you to.

What does being radical look like? In the Bible, the common characteristics are:

* They trusted God.

* They listened to God's voice and then obeyed-even when it cost them.

* Because of their faith, they lived lives that looked different from everyone else's.

That's a short list and a tall order, but basically it means you can be a radical too. There's nothing on that list that is impossible for you. There's nothing on that list that requires you to be older, or more financially stable, or to have a college degree. No matter who you are or where you live you can live a radical faith.

Meet Erin, she has learned practical ways to do just that.

You can read them in any order - but be radical and jump in!

My Thoughts

How can you spot a person with Radical Faith? What makes this person different?

Do you know anyone with Radical Faith? If so how do you feel about this person? How do other people react to this person?

Are you this person?  Would you like to be a person with Radical Faith? You might have to remove a few things from your life in order to make time for prayer, reading your bible, journal and worshiping with song.  Listen to God's voice and obey! Become a person with Radical Faith.  This may come at a cost.

This is the perfect series for tweens.  It is not over bearing or in your face.  It is like getting advice from a close friend.  A quiet friend with Radical Faith. She definitely has the plan!  I am talking about the author, Erin Davis.  She backs up her advice with scriptures, accounts of many people in the bible with Radical Faith.

I highly recommend this book.

What a wonderful Christmas gift this would make!for a tween or teen!

There are four books in this series and they can be read in any order.

I will be review the rest of the books in this series all this week.  Be sure to stop by and find out what my opinion is of the other three books.

I rated this book a 5 out of 5.

BLOWING ON DANDELIONS ~ LOVE BLOOMS IN OREGON SERIES BOOK 1, BY MIRALEE FERRELL

About Book

Do Dandelion Wishes Actually Come True?

Katherine Galloway knew this moment of calm wouldn’t last, blown away like the dandelion seeds she scattered as a girl. In 1880, three years after her husband’s death, she struggles to run an Oregon boardinghouse and raise two girls alone. Things don't get easier when her critical, domineering mother moves in. Katherine must make the situation work, but standing up for herself and her family while honoring her mother isn't easy. And with a daughter entering the teenage years, the pressure on Katherine becomes close to overwhelming. Then she crosses paths with Micah Jacobs, a widower who could reignite her heart, but she fears a relationship with him might send things over the edge. She must find the strength, wisdom, hope, and faith to remake her life, for everything is about to change.

About Author

Miralee and her husband Allen have been married almost 40 yrs. They live on 11 acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in southern Washington State, where they love to garden, play with their dogs, take walks, and go sailing. Miralee also rides her horse on the wooded trails near their home with her grown daughter who lives nearby. She’s an avid reader and has a large collection of first edition Zane Grey books, which inspired her desire to write fiction set in the Old West. When she started writing fiction Miralee believed that she’d always stay with women’s contemporary, but has since branched out to historical romance. Her first two books were women’s contemporary with Kregel Publications, The Other Daughter, and Finding Jeena.

Miralee serves as president of the Portland, Oregon, chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and belongs to a number of writer’s groups. She speaks at women’s groups, libraries, and churches about her writing journey, and has taught a both writers and library conferences.

Her fourth historical romance with Summerside Press in their Love Finds You series, set in Sundance, Wyoming released summer of 2011. Miralee is currently under contract with David C. Cook for a three-book series of historical romance novels, set in Oregon. Some of her books have a suspense thread as well as romance, and three have a higher degree of action with a decided Old West slant. Her upcoming series will be somewhat of a women’s fiction/historical romance combination, with the emphasis on well-developed characters and plot.

My Thoughts

Katherine Galloway wishes she could be excited that her mother is coming for a visit.  But instead she is anticipating a very stressful situation.  Her mother is outspoken and overbearing not having anything nice to say to or about Katherine.  Katherine is treated like an imbecile by her mother.  When in fact she done very well for herself and her two daughters.  She owns a boarding house in Oregon which she has been in full charge of since she became a widow.

Since Micah Jacobs recently moved to Oregon he keeps running into Katherine Galloway.  He has to admit she is an attractive woman but he is not shopping for a new wife.  He still grieves his deceased wife. Anyway Katherine seems to have more on her plate than she can handle.  His teenage son has made fast friends with Mrs. Jacobs daughter at which Mrs. Jacobs seems to object.

Between Katherine dealing with running the boarding house, the arrival of her mother, her daughter's new friendship and then her youngest daughter to keep up with she is just about on her last nerve.

Wouldn't it be nice to have someone to lean on in times of trials and tribulations?  A spouse is would be a marvelous option.  God tends to give to us abundantly when we are not even looking.  For He already has a plan for our lives.

This was a most interesting read.  I have heard of mother-in-laws on the war path but in this story the author has created a character you will not likely forget, a mother from Hades.  I loved the support system the author created for Katherine which was her church quilting group.  We depend on our Lord to comfort us yet He also gives us the church community as a support system.  The author and the Lord had to be very creative in the unlikely romance between Katherine and Micah since there are  so many obstacles in their way.

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book a 5+ out of 5.

PictureDebra Chapoton enjoys writing Big Pine Lodge Books, as it allows her to combine two things she loves greatly: writing and providing wholesome lessons to kids. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English - something that came in useful as she now pursues her passion in writing. She started writing novels in 2002, and was surprised to find out that the characters quickly take over the action and dialogue in the stories. "That’s what makes writing fun and exciting," she explains. "I'm just as eager to find out what's going to happen next as you are."

Q & A with Debra Chapoton

1. What books most influenced your writing?
This is the hardest question to answer because I think that every single book I’ve ever read has taught me something about writing. If I have to pick two then I’ll say Dean Koontz’s “Intensity” and Dwight V. Swain’s “Techniques of the Selling Writer”.

2. What type of books do you mostly write and why?
I write Young Adult novels because the main characters are teenagers and I love that age group. I spent decades in a high school classroom so I have plenty of experiences to draw from and personality types to build on.

3. Do you have to travel much concerning your books?
I’m not a good traveler; I get car sick. I love airplanes, but not airports, so I haven’t traveled out of state in quite a while.

4. Do your family and friends inspire any of your books’ characters or plots?
Absolutely. Embarrassing moments, family troubles, favorite sayings, humiliating events, funny situations, nicknames, habits . . . it all gets worked in.

5. Do you consider yourself a born writer?
Sure, we all have different talents and abilities. I like words. I've had a thing for language, grammar, and writing for as long as I can remember.

6. Just for fun! What do you like to eat and drink while you are writing?
Nothing. When I’m writing I go for hours without thinking of food, well, except for chocolate.

Thanks for the interview. I hope your readers will check out “Sheltered”.

Debra thank you so much for sharing about yourself
and your new release SHELTERED!
I am sure my readers will be anxious to check out SHELTERED!

My Thought

This book is a take-off from the film Courageous.  Written in mind for our Teens.  All Teens should have a copy of this book!

From the back cover of Courageous Teens:
  • You need the courage to stand strong when everything eles is falling apart.
  • You need the courage to say no when the world entices with diversions.
  • You need the courage to be a faithful leader of the next generation.

The authors not only use the film Courageous but also the Bible for their resources in writing this book. They have chosen courageous people from the film and  from the Bible as roll models for our teens.  What better role models than the people God has chosen to lead by example.

This book can be used as a devotional, for inspiration, bible study and group bible study.  The question presented throughout the book will peak the teens interest  and encourage them to apply what they have learned in their daily walk with God.

Teens are always looking for a hero.  There are so many great warriors, leaders and teachers in the bible.
When you think of courageous people and the Bible at the same time who would you choose as a role model?

What is holding you back from being a Courageous role model to our youth?

Scripture:
"DO NOT BE AFRAID OR DISCOURAGED.  BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS."
JOSHUA 10:25 (HCSB)

I highly recommend this book.

I rated this book 5 out of 5.

Author Q&A/Interview with Amber Argle: WITCH BORN (sequel) YA

About Book

Brusenna thought it was finished.

She defeated the Dark Witch, saving the Haven Witches from imprisonment and death. She found love and a place to belong.

She was wrong.

Haven is not the sanctuary it appears to be. Even love is in danger of slipping away like water through cupped hands.

Some things can't be saved.

A new threat merges with the old as the Witches’ dark history begins to catch up with them. Only Brusenna knows the extent of the danger and how to stop it, though doing so might cost her everything.

Including her life.

Will Brusenna be required to make the ultimate sacrifice?

First page:

1. Shadows

The night was so deep the shadows seemed to bleed darkness. Senna glanced toward the hidden sky, searching for the moon that would not come. Not tonight. Even the strongest starlight was strangled by the dense canopy of trees. The temporary blindness was frightening, but it ensured no one would notice her slipping away.

With each step she took, the roar of the waterfall grew louder. Finally, she reached the staircase carved into the side of the cliff. Mindful of the slippery steps, she climbed upward until her muscles burned and sweat broke across her skin despite the chill.

When she’d crested the top and crossed the bleak expanse, she glanced at the frothing sea far below. Sea spray misted her skin. She faced westward, towards the distant land of Tarten. Closing her eyes, she cast her senses across the vast ocean, searching and feeling the faraway echoes of the Four Sisters—Earth, Water, Plants, and Sunlight. She concentrated until she could hear their pain, an aching melody.

Senna’s tears started again, wetting the salty tracks already on her cheeks. At night, her dreams haunted her. Dreams of a withered land and a dying people. With all the strength she had, she sang.

Let not the curse of Witches
Destroy a land of natural riches.
Plants, preserve life in thy roots,
Seeds sleep in earth, send forth no shoots
Until the Witches shall disperse
This terrible and unjust curse.

About Amber

I am the author of Witch Song and its sequel, Witch Born. I run because I like to eat chocolate and fit in my jeans. I have a thing for vintage inspired clothes, and I firmly believe one can never have enough jewelry, shoes, or books.

Q&A with Amber

1. What made you decide to write about Witches?
I wanted to take something that was often portrayed as dark and evil and twist it into something beautiful and natural. So instead of satanic chanting, my witches sing to control nature. I also wanted to use resonance with the Salem Witch Trials, so though my world is completely fictional, it has many similarities in landscape and technology with seventeenth century New England.

2. How did you get your book published?
After years of hard work and rejection, I finally found an agent. Dropped him after a year. Had a book contract (for a different book), but the contract was awful so I couldn't sign it. Had another publisher and other agents nearly take it, but it was always nearly. Rhemalda published Witch Song. They did a good job, but when I received my first royalty statement, I realized if I wanted a chance to make any money at this, I was going to have to try something else, so I published Witch Born under my own publishing house.

3. What type of readers will be interested in this series/book?
Readers who enjoy clean fantasy with a touch of romance.

4. What is special about this series/book?
It's very different from anything else out there. When I first started, there wasn't anyone else doing YA high fantasy except Kristin Cashore. I haven't really heard of other books that use singing as a medium for magic. There's a few more now, but still not many. Also, I'm clean and lyrical.

5. What differentiates this book from others in this category?
My characters are flawed and make mistakes (read: screw up). Also, I have lots of young girls who relate to Brusenna because she's very shy and unsure in the beginning.

6. Have you published any other books?
Just these two so far.

7. Do you plan to publish more books?
I have two coming out next year. Witch Wars, which is a short prequel to Witch Song and follows the events that initiated the Witch wars.

Winter Queen is the beginning of a whole new trilogy.
Mortally wounded during a raid, seventeen-year-old Ilyenna is healed by winter fairies who present her with a seductive offer: become one of them and share their power over winter. But that power comes with a price. If she accepts, she will become a force of nature, lose her humanity, and abandon her family.

Unwilling to pay such a high price, Ilyenna is enslaved by the one of the invaders, Darrien. While in captivity, she learns the attack wasn’t just a simple raid but part of a larger plot to overthrow her entire nation.

With the enemy stealing over the mountains and Darrien coming to take her to his bed, Ilyenna must decide whether to resurrect the power the fairies left behind. Doing so will allow her to defeat Darrien and the other invaders, but if she embraces winter, she will lose herself to that destroying power—forever.  http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15829917-winter-queen

Experience this journey with Bobby and Annie and feel the power of true determination, and what God can do if you just let him into your heart....

 My Thoughts

Thirteen year old Bobby is on a quest to find more time or a kidney donor for his mom.  She is in desperate need of a new kidney due to cancer. She is all he has left in this world.  He has no other relatives other than his uncle and they recently got notice from the military that his uncle is missing in action.  But he doesn't believe them, he feels in his gut that his uncle is alive.

Bobby is staying with a family friend while his mom is in the hospital.  He decides to sneak out one night without telling anyone and hits the streets for answers that might help his mom. When he starts out on this quest he makes friends with a young girl, Annie and she joins him on his journey. It is very clear that Annie has a personal relationship with God.  Bobby doesn't know God or what He is capable of doing if he would just believe in Him.  Bobby watches Annie as she share her beliefs with strangers about the power of  prayer if only they would have faith in God.   Annie tries to tell Bobby who God is and about Jesus.  But he isn't sure he believes or trust what Annie says about God.

Any mom reading this story will freak at the idea of this young boy out on the streets alone.  And why does so many people know this girl Annie and don't seem to be concerned about her?  Where is her parents? Why is she on the streets?  Why doesn't she want to go home?  I had so many questions running through my mind.

This may be a Young Adult book but don't let that stop you from reading this book.  Also you better make sure you have a box of tissues at hand  because you will need them.

I have had this book on my to read list for some time now.  I am so glad I was able to work it into my schedule.  I'm sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

I highly recommend this book!

I rate this book 5 out of 5.
