Amber Argyle

Amber Argyle is the author of Witch Song and its sequel, Witch Born. She grew up with three brothers on a cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains. She spent hours riding horses, roaming the mountains, and playing in her family’s creepy barn. This environment fueled her imagination for writing high fantasy. 

She has worked as a short order cook, janitor, and staff member in a mental institution. All of which has given her great insight into the human condition and has made for some unique characters. 

She received her bachelor’s degree in English and Physical Education from Utah State University. 

She currently resides in Utah with her husband and three small children.

Q&A with Amber Argyle

Q. What is your favorite holiday? 

A. Christmas. Apple cider, pine scented candles, and I especially love Christmas trees.

Q. What do you look forward to most when this time of year comes around? 

A. Presents. Especially this year. I know what my husband bought me (cause I bought it and told him to wrap it), and I can barely wait! -But I should probably answer that love the way my children's eyes light up, or reading the Christmas story . . . 

I'm a bad person. ;)

Q. Do you have a favorite Christmas movie or song? 

A. Silent Night. So peaceful.

Q. What's one of your favorite (or funniest) Christmas memories? 

A. Though the statute of limitations has passed, I still don't feel comfortable sharing that particular story.

No, I'm not kidding. Ummmm . . . My oldest son's first Christmas. My husband and I were definitely more excited than he was. He just wanted to go back to sleep. I love being a mom!

Q. If you could pick any Christmas character (from either a book or movie) that is most like you, who would it be?

A. I asked my husband and he said Scrooge. Rude, huh? My son says Rudolph's girlfriend. We don't even know her name, that's how memorable I am. 

Q. If you could be in any Christmas movie, which one would it be? And why?

A. One that's filmed somewhere warm and tropical. I'm swaddled in blankets and fleece at present. 

Q. Are there any holiday treats you look forward to eating around Christmastime?

A. Caramel turtles. My bestest friend always brings me a plate and I hoard them. 

Q. What do you like to do during the holidays?

A. We like to go see the lights at temple square in Salt Lake City. Also, we go for a sleigh ride to see the elk at Hardware Ranch.

Although born and reared in a small suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Judy moved to Kansas at the age of seventeen and has considered the sunflower state ‘home’ ever since. She currently lives in Topeka. She enjoys reading, traveling, researching history, and Bible study.

Writing Christian fiction is Judy’s second career. For many years she worked as a legal assistant in law firms and later worked in government law offices. She has retired from legal work in order to write fulltime —a vocation she considers both a ministry and a blessing.

Judy has authored or co-authored more than twenty-five books since she began writing in 1996. She is an award-winning author whose avid research and love for history are reflected in her novels, several of which have placed in the CBA and ECPA top ten lists. It is her deep desire to point readers to the love and grace of Jesus.

Favorite Holiday :  Christmas

What do you look forward to most when this time of year comes around? Being with family and visiting or hearing from friends that I somehow lose touch with during the year. Christmas seems to be the one season when we take time to make a phone call or send a card to those we don’t see very often.

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie or song:  My favorite Christmas carol is Silent Night. My favorite non-carol is Silver Bells (I may be aging myself with that one).

What’s a favorite Christmas memory: When I was about five years old and still believed in Santa Claus, I’d heard some of the older children in school discussing the fact that there was no Santa. Wanting to test the reliability of such an awful thought, I waited until late on Christmas Eve to tell my mother the thing I wanted the very most for Christmas was a doll house. Surprised, she mentioned the fact that I’d not placed a doll house on my Christmas list or even pointed one out when we’d been looking at toys. I smiled and told her that if there really was a Santa, he knew what I wanted because I’d whispered it to him when we visited the department store. On Christmas morning, I ran downstairs and beneath the tree was a beautiful doll house. That was proof enough for me to believe there truly was a Santa Claus. Years later when I discussed this with my mother, she said she’d purchased the doll house because she’d seen it on sale and thought it would make a good present for my sister and me. She’d been disappointed when neither of us had asked for one. However, it turns out my late night wish gave her as much joy as I received the following morning!

What do you like to do during the holidays:  We have a few traditions I still enjoy. We take one evening and drive through Winter Wonderland and then drive around town to look at Christmas lights. We always visit one restaurant and leave a large tip for the waitress—such fun to see her surprise and thankfulness. The thing I most enjoy is attending candlelight service on Christmas Eve with my family—always memorable.

What Christmas treats do you look forward to eating at Christmastime: I love sweets so Christmas cookies in every shape and size are always at the top of my list. Some of my favorites are Russian tea cookies, sugar cookies, peanut butter swirls, pinwheels, and I also enjoy peanut butter or chocolate fudge. I can almost feel the pounds creeping up on me.
