My Thoughts:
This story is compared to Ruth and Esther in the bible.
Rosa Garner and her mother in law Louise Garner have returned to the Garner's family ranch in Caldwell County, Texas. They have arrived from Mexico without their husbands whom were killed in a cave in. When they arrived at the ranch it was in an appalling state. It took a lot of work to get it ready for it's human inhabitants and rid of all other critters.
Louise does not have a head for figures and had no idea they owed so much money on back taxes and that they were about to loose the ranch. Louise's sister in law, Mary knew it was going to be almost impossible to come up with the money but Rosa was determined to put in crops along with raising chickens and selling the eggs. She even took in embroidery work at which she was very talented. Louise's nephew, Weston Garner from a neighboring ranch gave them some sheep which they prepared to sell. Weston did not know how dire the situation was with the taxes on his Aunt's ranch.
For years Weston has battled buried emotions ever since the death of his wife. He tries to avoid all the matchmakers and single ladies looking to catch a suitable husband and since Weston Garner has one of the largest ranches in Caldwell County he is most certainly a good catch. Although he is not very sociable. Then here is this little mexican gal, Rosa as pretty as can be, awakening feelings in him he thought were long well buried and he fights to keep them buried. Rosa is also finding Weston very difficult to read because one day he is full of tenderness toward her and then he disappears for days as if he can't stand to be around her. But why even try to develop a relationship when with anyone when Rosa and Aunt Louise are doomed to be homeless and this is the first real home Rosa has had since she left her parents home in Mexico.
This story was so like Ruth and Esther. This young woman had so much faith in her mother in law and her new found faith in God. How frightening it must be to know that you are about to be homeless, no where to go. How far would you go to save your home? Are would you have faith that God will provide?
I highly recommend this book.

My Thoughts:
I loved this book! It will break your heart reading about pain and sorrow people went through fleeing and fighting for freedom. This book gives us a look at the underground railroad from the heart and eyes of a two young college students who want more than anything to make a difference in this world. Kate Winters is very shy and withdrawn. But Ben Hanby, musician and song writer, sees much more in this young woman. He tries bringing her out of her shell and into a world she was unaware. Which happened to be reality. As Kate is pulled from her cocoon she was forced into, by an over bearing mother and drunkard father, her world explodes into a world of adventure and grave danger. This part of her new life she tries to hide from her mother but knows she must honor her parents and tell them the truth she encountered while on an outing with Ben Hanby's mother.
This historical fiction has adventure, suspense, love, faith, hope and redemption.
This is the second in the series of Sadler's Legacy and Ben Hanby's mother and father were the heroine and hero of the first book in this series.
I highly recommend this book.

Litfuse Tour: The Keeper by Suzanne Woods Fisher
Her interest in the Amish began with her grandfather, W.D. Benedict, who was raised Plain. She has many, many Plain relatives living in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and travels back to Pennsylvania, as well as to Ohio, a couple of times each year for research.
Suzanne has a great admiration for the Plain people and believes they provide wonderful examples to the world. In both her fiction and non-fiction books, she has an underlying theme: You don't have to "go Amish" to incorporate many of their principles--simplicity, living with less, appreciating nature, forgiving others more readily-- into your life.
When Suzanne isn't writing or bragging to her friends about her first new grandbaby (!), she is raising puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. To Suzanne's way of thinking, you just can't take life too seriously when a puppy is tearing through your house with someone's underwear in its mouth.

My Review:
A young Amish woman, Julia Lapp has one thing on her mind and that is to marry Paul Fisher. But thanks to Roamin Roman, the beekeeper, Paul cancelled their wedding not for the first time but the second time. Due to some comments made by Roman Troy.
Julia's character is headstrong, pretty and very intelligent. Now Paul is tied to his mother's apron strings and has wandering eyes. Then there is Roman he knows what he wants in life and it is not a wife
or to be tied down in any one place. He makes sure everyone knows this. It is him and is bees on the road town to town.
When Julia's father needs an extra hand or two around the Windmill Farm they end up with a housekeeper/cook and a farm hand. Everything and everyone around the farm are in for the Lord's will and a lot of unexpected but welcomed changes.
I highly recommend this book!

My Thoughts:
Along Wooded Paths, book 2 in the Big Sky Series picks up where Beside Still Waters, book 1 left off. Marianna Sommer left the Amish home and childhood love, Aaron Zook to move with her family to start a new life in a new Amish community in Montana. The new Amish community shares their daily lives with the Englisch that also live and work there. She is pulled between her Amish beliefs a new relationship with God that is unlike any she had ever thought possible. She has also become friends with an Englischer, Ben. As they share their love for God, she begins to have feelings that she knows are not a possiblility if she is to remain Amish.
We often close our minds to new things especially if it involves religion and our roots. The author reveals that Marianna and her family had become prejudice to the outside world other than the Amish. Then they begin to wonder could the Englisch actually have a relationship with God that would allow them to enter Heaven's Gates.
Tricia has done it again. Another beautiful Amish novel. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I recommend you read this book. If you have not read an Amish novel before, then this series would be an excellent place to start.
I gladly give this book a rating of 5 out of 5.
